Barry Dworkin

born 1944

Barry Dworkin was born in Chicago, 1944, is a Swedish citizen and lives in Uppsala with his wife. He has had solo expositions in New York, Stockholm and Uppsala. His work is represented in public and private collections in the US and Sweden.

Organizing form and texture within a precisely justified frame, Dworkin creates compelling and fascinating visual tapestries that are rich in detail and powerful in design.

His subjects range from dramatic compositions using the facades of ordinary factory buildings, store fronts, and complicated scientific instruments to penetrating portraits, elegant and evocative nudes, vintage New York street scenes; and large format exquisitely detailed and deeply colored renditions of the majestic rocks and trees of the Namibian desert.

His technical virtuosity and visual ingenuity transform both the exotic and the common into visually riveting experience. Reviewing an early exhibition, the principal photo critic of the New York Times, wrote “Dworkin composes beautifully for a fine mysterious effect”.
